Clara Poletti is Director of IEFE, the research centre of Università Bocconi responsible for applied research in energy and environmental economics, focusing on environmental policy as well as on environmental management and sustainability. She is also Board member of Fondazione EnergyLab and Scientific Director for the energy sector of CERRE (Centre for Regulation in Europe).
Clara has a wide experience in wholesale markets design, incentive mechanisms and competition, mainly in the electricity sector. She joined the Italian regulator (Autorità per l'energia elettrica e il gas) at its very beginning, in 1997, as an economist in the tariff division. From 2002 she headed the regulator's Market and Competition Division. As head of this unit she was involved in the regulation of renewable power plants, as well as on the definition of their balancing and dispatching contracts. In 2002 she was also appointed head of the regulator's Market Monitoring Unit IPEXED, in charge of monitoring the wholesale market and balancing markets for joint enquires with the antitrust authority.
