Ian Fisher worked at The New York Times from 1990 to 2017, where he reported from nearly 60 countries for over a decade, as the bureau chief in East Africa, Eastern Europe, Rome and Jerusalem.
Mr. Fisher joined The Times in 1990. He covered the Bronx and Albany, before heading to Bosnia as a correspondent in 1995. In 1998, he was named East Africa bureau chief. From 2001 to 2004, while assigned to Warsaw and Prague to cover Eastern Europe, he spent most of his time in Iraq and the Middle East, including the West Bank, Gaza and Israel. He then spent four years in Rome as bureau chief.
In 2008, Mr. Fisher returned to New York as a deputy foreign editor. He later served as a masthead editor in charge of The Times’s digital transition, as head of investigations, and as weekend editor before his final assignment at The Times, as Jerusalem bureau chief. (Source: NY Times)
