Susan Knox
Susan Knox has lived in Milan since 1984. She is a breast cancer survivor and has been Executive Director of Europa Donna since 1999. She is responsible for all on-going European advocacy initiatives in the areas of information, education and lobbying/policy including Pan European advocacy conferences, meetings and information sessions at the European Parliament, European Breast Cancer Advocacy Training Courses, publications and websites. Recently her work has focused on a new European initiative - Breast Health Day, which was launched on 15 October 2008 and will take place annually.
In addition, Susan represents Europa Donna on numerous other projects: trial committees of TransBIG /MIDACT Project Director on ECN-European Cancer Network, patient advocate representative on EUROCAN+, and European Breast Cancer Conferences(EBCC). She is a speaker on patient advocacy at various international conferences and courses and has written widely on the subject. In 2009 she was also named advocacy editor of the scientific journal “The Breast”.
Prior to joining Europa Donna, Susan held various managerial positions in both the corporate and non profit sectors. For 12 years she worked for Citibank: As a Vice President in the Consumer Services Group, she was manager of the Headquarters branch in New York and head of the Personal Banking Group in Italy. Prior to that Susan worked for 10 years at a non-profit long-term care facility for the aged where she held positions as activities director and finally as Assistant Executive Director.
Susan holds a B.A. degree from Smith College and an M.A. degree from Columbia University
